Ward & Barnes, P.A.

"YP did the convincing by using real data and showing real, irrefutable ROI." - Austin Ward

Attorneys Austin Ward and Scott Barnes wanted a better quality of life and more control over their cases so they opened their own practice - Ward & Barnes, P.A. in Pensacola, Florida in 2012. Even before they opened their office doors, they made advertising a priority.

“One of the first things that we did, when we started our business, was we went and met the local YP℠ guys,” Scott said. “They were fantastic guys. They really sold us on YP and the value of YP even in the digital age.”

“They’re very good in particular—about following up on our advertising and following up with our case volume,” said Austin, the most business-oriented of the two partners.

“We’ve seen an increase in volume month after month from our advertising. It’s been fabulous.”

"YP has been a huge, huge source of new clients since day one for us, and we are very grateful for that." -Austin Ward

Acquiring clients is one of the biggest challenges that small firms face, but it’s the only way they can stay afloat. “You’ve got to run a volume-type practice, and you’ve got to make sure you’re signing a certain amount of clients each month in order to make sure the next year and the year after are successful,” explained Austin. “So that was the first thing we did.”

They placed a unique and eye-catching ad in the Yellow Pages, and the calls started coming in. “We immediately started seeing an increase in phone volume, and it’s just considerably gone up from there, month after month,” Austin said.

“I would say probably one-third of the calls we get are from YP ads, which is a lot given that we advertise with probably seven or eight different sources … We’re actually getting more return from our money with YP than we do from anywhere else.” Acquiring clients is one of the biggest challenges that small firms face, but it’s the only way they can stay afloat. “You’ve got to run a volume-type practice, and you’ve got to make sure you’re signing a certain amount of clients each month in order to make sure the next year and the year after are successful,” explained Austin. “So that was the first thing we did.”

"The hope, and the goal, and the belief is that our actions can change the world in some way, for somebody." -Scott Barnes

Scott and Austin are both Pensacola natives, so they’re deeply connected to the community and dedicated to helping their clients find justice after instances of injury or wrongful death.

“All the clients we’re serving are going through an extraordinarily tough time, they’ve got a lot of issues going on, and they need help,” Scott said. “It’s not something they can do themselves, because they’re dealing with multi-billion dollar insurance companies or just corporations that are obviously very powerful, and they feel helpless when they come to us.”

The Ward & Barnes office is located in an inviting historic home where clients can feel comfortable coming in to discuss their needs. The location is a huge upgrade from where they first got started, solving cases in a friend’s kitchen. They’ve grown quickly since then, adding five more employees within the past two years and increasing their caseload exponentially.
